SINGAPORE – American pop star Taylor Swift tops the list of artistes who make Singaporeans feel happy, while Mandopop star Jay Chou tops the list of artistes who make them feel sad.
This is according to the results of an online survey of 1,502 Singaporeans by Preply, a US-based online language learning platform that connects tutors with students, on which artistes are most likely to make them feel certain emotions.
Of the respondents, 23.6 per cent says that Swift is the artiste whose music is most likely to make fans feel happiness. She is followed by American band Maroon 5, K-pop girl group Blackpink, Chou and Singaporean Mandopop singer JJ Lin.
Chou is the artiste whose music makes them feel the most sad, says 19.5 per cent of the respondents. He is followed by Swift, Lin, Taiwanese singer Eric Chou and British singer Adele.
When it comes to eliciting feelings of anger, the music of American rock band Linkin Park tops the list with 14.1 per cent, followed by American rapper Eminem, American metal veterans Metallica, Swift and American hip-hop star Kanye West.
Swift also tops the list of artistes whose music makes the respondents feel love with 25.9 per cent, followed by British singer Ed Sheeran, American singer Bruno Mars, Chou and Lin.
According to Preply, which was founded in 2012, the survey was conducted in June and included “a diverse demographic to ensure a representative sample of the population”.
