SGX Nifty signals a muted start

Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange traded 9 points, or 0.05 per cent, lower at 16,470.50, signaling that Dalal Street was headed for a muted start on Wednesday.

Quarterly earnings today

Bajaj Finance, Maruti Suzuki India, Tata Motors, United Breweries, Colgate-Palmolive, Biocon, CG Power, APL Apollo Tubes, Blue Dart Express and VIP Industries are among companies that will announce their quarterly earnings today.

Tech View: Nifty50 forms bearish candle, further weakness possible

Nifty50 on Tuesday fell for the second day in a row and, in the process, settled below the 16,500 level. The index formed a bearish candle on the daily chart, with no upper wick, suggesting selling at the word go. The 50-pack index closed near the day's low. Analysts believe that further weakness cannot be ruled out.

Oil rises on US crude stock drawdown

Oil prices rose in early Asian trade on Wednesday as industry data showed a larger-than-expected drawdown in U.S. crude stockpiles. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose 67 cents, or 0.7%, to $95.65 a barrel by 0009 GMT.

Tokyo markets open lower

Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday with investors taking cues from a cut to profit estimates by US retail giant Walmart, which helped drag down US markets. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index slipped 0.44 percent, or 120.43 points, to 27,534.78 in early trade, while the broader Topix index fell 0.31 percent, or 5.98 points, to 1,937.19.
