On July 13, Ssangyong Engineering & Construction (Ssangyong E&C) held the opening ceremony for the Woodlands Health Campus (WHC) in Singapore, which was completed after six years of construction.

The event was attended by key executives including Kim Woong-ki, Chairman of Global Sae-A Group, Kim Ki-myeong, Vice Chairman, Kim Seok-jun, Chairman of Ssangyong E&C, and CEO Kim In-soo, along with notable figures such as former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Minister for Health Ong Ye Kung, and WHC CEO Jason Cheah.

Commissioned by the Singapore Ministry of Health, the WHC project is situated in the northern Woodlands area on a 76,600 square meter site. The facility consists of eight buildings with four basement levels and seven above-ground floors, housing a total of 1,800 beds, making it the largest hospital in Singapore based on bed count.

The WHC is designed to be a state-of-the-art medical complex featuring a general hospital, community hospital, elderly care facility center, and hospice center, all integrated with advanced information technology (IT). The total construction cost amounted to approximately KRW 1.6 trillion, and the project was completed in six years. Ssangyong E&C led the project in a joint venture with Daewoo Engineering & Construction and a local firm, having secured the contract in March 2018.

Hospital construction is considered highly complex due to the diverse requirements of various spaces like operating rooms, patient rooms, and consultation rooms, which differ significantly from residential construction. Particularly for WHC, being a futuristic general hospital, the incorporation of cutting-edge medical equipment necessitated frequent design changes to accommodate upgraded specifications.

To address these challenges, Ssangyong E&C established a dedicated Building Information Modeling (BIM) team to implement smart construction techniques. They utilized 3D design and Virtual Reality (VR) to maximize accuracy in interior design and minimize design alterations.
