SINGAPORE – The Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group will create positions for retrenched Jetstar Asia employees across its airlines, including 100 jobs for pilots and 200 jobs for cabin crew.

In a statement on June 13, a spokesperson for the company said its aim is to support as many affected staff as possible in continuing their careers in the aviation sector.

Over 500 employees will be retrenched from Jetstar Asia following its closure on July 31, the low-cost airline said on June 11 in a statement announcing the shut down.

SIA Group has been working closely with Jetstar Asia since the day of the closure announcement to explore employment opportunities for affected employees, the spokesperson said.

As part of this effort, representatives from SIA and Scoot will be at Jetstar Asia’s office from June 17 to 19 to meet interested employees and talk more about avaliable roles, she added

“We understand that this is a time of uncertainty and are committed to providing the necessary support to help make the recruitment and onboarding process as smooth as possible,” she said.

“We appreciate the experience that Jetstar Asia employees bring, and we look forward to welcoming the successful candidates into the SIA Group.”

Efforts to place retrenched employees were announced on the day of the closure. Labour chief Ng Chee Meng said then that the National Trades Union Congress was exploring placing Jetstar Asia employees with SIA Group.

SIA group then said it had set up dedicated channels for retrenched employees to expedite their applications.
