MANILA – A Philippine Air Force (PAF) training aircraft carrying two pilots crashed on Wednesday morning on a farmland in Pilar town, Bataan, a province 133km west of the capital Manila.

PAF spokesman Maria Consuelo Castillo said the plane was an SIAI-Marchetti SF260 TP trainer that was being operated by the air force’s 15th Strike Wing unit.

The ill-fated aircraft took off at 9.59am from the PAF’s base at Sangley Point in Cavite province and crashed in Bataan at 10.34am.

Colonel Castillo said two pilots were onboard, but said PAF cannot confirm yet if there were any fatalities, as it is still gathering information from the ground.

“We lost track of the plane more than 30 minutes into their flight,” she said.

Photos shared by Pilar town’s police showed one pilot still trapped in the crashed plane. Rescue operations were still ongoing as of mid-morning Wednesday.

The PAF plane air crash happened a day after a six-seater Cessna plane went missing in Isabela, a province north of Manila. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing to locate the private plane, its pilot and five passengers.
