SINGAPORE – Train passengers on a five-station stretch of the North-South Line had their journeys delayed on the evening of Sept 2 because of a train fault.

Operator SMRT had, in a Facebook post at 8.22pm, warned commuters to factor in 25 minutes more when travelling from Woodlands to Yishun, towards the Marina South Pier station.

The 45-minute-long disruption affected commuters at five stations: Woodlands, Admiralty, Sembawang, Canberra and Yishun.

In an update at about 9pm, it said that the affected train service has resumed normal operations. The free regular bus service between Yishun and Woodlands, which was activated earlier, have stopped.

In a statement on Facebook, SMRT Trains president Lam Sheau Kai said the “train-borne signalling fault” happened at about 8.05pm, with its station staff on site to guide and assist commuters.

“Our staff was immediately deployed to rectify the fault. The affected train was taken out of service, and train services progressively resumed from 8.50pm,” he said.

“We apologise for the disruption and sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding.”
