MARKET LIVE: Sensex rises 700 points, Nifty above 17,150; Auto, Banks lead

Stock market live updates: The domestic benchmark indices opened on an upbeat note Tuesday as global markets reversed losses and oil prices continued retreat. 

The BSE Sensex rose 550 points to 57,120, while the NSE Nifty climbed 170 points to 17,122.

All Sensex shares opened higher. HUL, Maruti, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Twins, M&M, Sun Pharma, Nestle, ITC and Axis Bank were the top gainers, rising up to 2.7 per cent. On the Nifty, only Hindalco and JSW Steel turned negative.    

In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices were also in the positive territory, up to 1.4 per cent higher. 

Sectorally, Nifty Auto rose 2 per cent followed by Nifty FMCG and Realty, up 1.7 and 1.6 per cent, respectively.

Among stocks, Zee Learn cracked 15 per cent, and YES Bank rose 1 per cent. The bank has moved NCLT seeking initiation of insolvency proceedings against Zee Learn for a default of Rs 468 crores with respect to a financial facility.
