LONDON - A header deep into second-half stoppage time from midfielder Daniel Munoz gave Crystal Palace a much-needed draw against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday as the Colombian atoned for a bad miss earlier in the game.
In a first half in which both sides performed poorly, Palace had the better chances with Munoz somehow missing an open goal after a lightning counter-attack.
The away fans finally had something to cheer in the 53rd minute when Newcastle took the lead with a superbly-worked free kick that resulted in Anthony Gordon driving the ball across the face of goal and defender Marc Guehi turning it into his own net.
Newcastle looked set to grab all three points but Guehi and Munoz redeemed themselves when the former crossed for the latter to score a goal that moves the Eagles up to nine points and 17th place, one ahead of the relegation zone, while Newcastle are 10th on 19 points.
