Indian Heritage Centre, Singapore
About 10% of our population consists of Indians; although a relatively small group, the community plays a huge part in shaping the mixed pot of cultures of our colourful country. Nestled away in the heart of Little India, the Indian Heritage Centre encapsulates the history and soul of the Indian community, from their humble roots to their role in shaping modern Singapore.
What is the Indian Heritage Centre?
The centre opened on 8th May 2015 and is currently celebrating a decade of educating visitors to their centre, both locals and tourists alike. Entry for Singaporeans and PRs is absolutely free, while foreigners pay a small entry fee of $8/adult and $5/child.
From the moment you step into the Indian Heritage Centre, the pride the Indians have for their vibrant culture is palpable. You could say it’s a museum, but it’s one that showcases plenty of artefacts collected from the local community, thus illustrating their stories and experiences from a Singaporean perspective.
Some of the revered treasures in the permanent exhibits include diaries, family photographs, ornaments, and jewels.
