China: Thousands of drones took over Hong Kong’s night sky on Saturday, turning the New Hung Hom Harbourfront into a giant moving canvas ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival and China’s National Day celebrations.
The aerial show was part of the second “Hanfu Carnival: Heavenly Palace Adventure”, combining traditional Chinese culture with futuristic space-themed visuals.
Drones Turn Harbour Into A Giant Screen
Spectators watched as hundreds of formations appeared above Victoria Harbour, including an astronaut making a heart gesture, a rocket travelling towards Saturn, a moving train and Hong Kong’s skyline.
The display also featured a heart containing the number “77” and the words “I love China”, while crowds gathered along the waterfront to take photos and videos.
For some visitors, the experience was their first time seeing a large-scale drone show.
“Oh, that was impressive. It was my first time seeing a drone show, and it was better than what I expected,” said Joan, a student visiting from Spain.
She said she had expected to see drones simply moving around but was surprised by the large-scale images, 3D effects and moving formations.
