FairPrice Launches Kopi Potato Chips That Taste Like The Real Thing

In celebration of SG60, FairPrice has rolled out a new range of unique potato chips, and one of them is said to taste just like your morning kopi. A nod to everyone’s favourite Nanyang-style coffee, the new Kopi Potato Chips ($1.95, U.P. $2.50) are launched as a limited-time snack under the FairPrice name.

After trying these kopi-flavoured chips, here are our honest thoughts.

Once you open the bag of chips, you’ll be hit with a strong kopi aroma, akin to a cup of freshly brewed kopi-o from a kopitiam. Scent-wise, the similarities between the chips and the actual drink are uncanny. The coffee fragrance is bold and heady, with a hint of butter that’s reminiscent of how Hainanese kopi is prepared—by roasting coffee beans with margarine, which results in that signature rich aroma.

Although they nailed the scent, the coffee note was lacking in these chips. It was rather confusing as I could only smell the kopi, but not taste it. Instead, these chips simply tasted like regular salted potato chips, without any discernible flavour.
