COVID-19 Live Updates: Just when the world thought the worst of COVID-19 was over, the deadly virus is once again staging a concerning resurgence across parts of Asia. In Hong Kong, weekly cases surged over 30 times in 10 weeks. Cases also surged by nearly 30 per cent in a week in Singapore. There are also reports of significant surges in China and Thailand.

According to the reports, Hong Kong reported 1,042 cases in the week ending May 10. In the previous week, the number of cases was 972. The surge in infections has been continuing since the beginning of March, when there were 33 cases weekly.

However, in a major relief, the Indian Health Ministry has asserted that fresh COVID-19 cases in the country are under control. "The current COVID-19 situation in India remains under control, and as of May 19, the number of active COVID-19 cases in India stands at 257, said sources at the Union Health Ministry on Monday (May 19, 2025).

The Union Health Ministry remains vigilant and proactive in monitoring the situation closely, ensuring that appropriate measures are in place to safeguard public health, they said.
