American man charged with stalking actress Jennifer Aniston over two years

LOS ANGELES - A 48-year-old man has been charged with stalking and vandalism, including crashing his car through the front gate of American actress Jennifer Aniston’s Bel Air home, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said.

The man, Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, from New Albany, Mississippi, could face three years in prison, the district attorney’s office said in a news release. He is accused of repeatedly harassing Aniston, 56, and “sending her unwanted social media, voice mail and email messages” over a roughly two-year period starting March 1, 2023.

“Stalking is a crime that can quickly escalate from harassment to dangerous, violent actions, threatening the safety of victims and our communities,” District Attorney Nathan Hochman said in the news release.

Carwyle is also accused of crashing his vehicle through the front gate of Aniston’s home on May 5, “causing substantial damage”, according to prosecutors. He then stopped in Aniston’s driveway and was detained by her security guard before police arrived and arrested him, according to the news release.

Aniston’s Bel Air mansion was featured last week in Architectural Digest, which described it as a midcentury-modern house. The Friends (1994 to 2004) star also hosted her 2015 wedding to American actor Justin Theroux at the home. They are now divorced.

Carwyle started proclaiming that god wanted him to marry Aniston sometime after the Covid-19 pandemic, his longtime friend Marty Merritt said in a video posted to Facebook.

Mr Merritt said that he had known Carwyle in school and that the two became friends as adults when they started attending the same church.

The pandemic changed things, Mr Merritt said, adding that Carwyle started sending him outrageous messages and posting “creepy” things online.

Aniston could not immediately be reached for comment.

“I’m so sorry, Ms Aniston, that this happened to you,” Mr Merritt said in the video. NYTIMES
