SINGAPORE - A 15-year-old has been arrested for his suspected involvement in the theft of a motorcycle in Pasir Ris on June 17.
The police were alerted to the incident at 1.20pm, when they received a report that a motorcycle parked at an open-air carpark at Block 107 Pasir Ris Street 12 had allegedly been stolen.
Through follow-up investigations and images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the alleged perpetrator and arrested him within 16 hours of the report, the police said in a release on June 18.
They added that the stolen motorcycle was also recovered.
The teenager is expected to be charged in court on June 19.
If found guilty, he can be fined and jailed for up to seven years.
The police advised motorcyclists to take crime prevention measures such as parking in well-lit areas, installing an anti-theft alarm system, and using a motorcycle canvas to cover the vehicle to secure both ends.
Motorcycle owners should also use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install a suspension guard.
Removing the ignition key and locking the motorcycle whenever it is left unattended, and not leaving spare keys inside the motorcycle storage box, are also advisable, the police added.
